North Field (Canada won toss): Canada (2pts) beat Cayman Islands (0) by 166 runs

Canada bowled out Cayman Islands for just 30 runs, their lowest ever T20 international score, to move temporarily top of the Americas Regional Qualifier table.

Man of the match Pargat Singh struck a career-best 82 at the top of the order, with some late hitting down the order from Nicholas Kirton and Navneet Dhaliwal taking Canada to 196 for five in 20 overs, the second-highest score of the tournament after the Canadians posted 230 against Panama on Tuesday.

Cayman, who gave Bermuda a scare this week, never put up a fight with the bat and were blown away in 11.3 overs, with fast bowler Kaleem Sana taking four wickets to bring his tournament tally to twelve.

Singh negotiated a difficult few overs after losing his opening partner Aaron Johnson for three runs in the first over, but kept his cool to accelarate midway through the innings.

“The wicket was really good to bat on,’’ Singh said.

“I took my time early and after that I played my shots. The ground is too big so I took singles, that was my plan. I think I miscalculated with four overs to go and that’s why I missed out on my hundred.”

Cayman captain Ramon Sealy was disappointed with his team’s effort after starting off well with the ball.

“It’s a bit embarrassing and we have to pick ourselves up now,’’ Sealy said.

“Qualification is out of the question as we’ve lost too many games already and the most we can end up on is three wins. Hopefully we can get a better result against Bermuda and Canada.

“When we came here, we gave ourselves as much chances as everyone else. On a day we can surprise people as you saw yesterday when we played Bermuda. We gave them a good fight and we were in there until the last five, six overs.

“Against Canada, we always had them on the ropes. We took early wickets but they had one partnership and then they get away from us, it’s something we need to look at and see why it’s happening all the time.

“Coming into this tournament, we figured we could surprise one of the big boys, one of the favourites and sneak in but now we just have to focus on the next tournament.”
