A 38-year-old man was last night being treated in the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital after being shot multiple times — although his injuries are said not to be life-threatening.

The incident took place in the Court Street area, outside the Spinning Wheel at about 12.15am yesterday.

Police said that immediately after the shooting, two men dressed in dark clothing with dark-tinted helmets were seen speeding along King Street on a motorcycle with no number plates.

A police spokesman said: “The 38-year-old man who sustained multiple gunshot wounds in that incident remains in hospital, where he continues to receive treatment for his injuries, which are not considered life-threatening.

“Court Street remained closed between Dundonald Street and Elliott Street for approximately four hours after the incident while the scene was forensically processed. Several spent shells were recovered.

“We wish to thank those members of the public who have so far come forward with information on this incident.

“However, we are aware there were several others who would have witnessed what happened and we ask that you or anyone with any information please contact Acting Detective Inspector Anneka Donawa on 717-2250 or via e-mail at adonawa@bps.bm.”

People can also call the main police number 295-0011, or share the information with a police officer.

It is the latest incident involving shots being fired — in early February, Pembroke residents reported hearing multiple gunshots. A Bermuda Police Service spokesman said that police received a 911 call reporting shots in the Crossland Lane area.

Later last month an investigation was launched into a firearms incident near Horseshoe Bay, in Southampton. A police spokesman confirmed that reports were received of a single gunshot.

The police also confirmed that a firearms incident took place outside a home on Tribe Road No 5 at the end of February.

“Bermuda Police Service patrol officers responded and secured the scene,” the spokesman said. “Forensic evidence collected at that location confirmed that a firearm had been discharged.”
