A 13-year-old schoolgirl was injured after she was hit by a car in Smith’s, police said yesterday.

The incident happened just before 8am yesterday on North Shore Road near Store Hill.

A Bermuda Police Service spokeswoman said that information received by officers suggested westbound traffic had come to a stop.

It was understood that the girl “who was walking east along North Shore Road in between stationary traffic, suddenly ran across the road into the path” of an eastbound car.

The spokeswoman added: “The victim sustained a leg injury along with minor abrasions to her left knee and was taken to the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for medical attention.

“The motor car involved was left with minor damage to the front end.”

The spokeswoman added: “The incident resulted in traffic delays for commuters travelling west on the North Shore Road.

“However normal traffic flow was restored after approximately 30 minutes.”

Another crash happened just before midnight on Middle Road, Sandys, near its junction with Overplus Lane.

It is understood that a 22-year-old man was driving west when he lost control of his car and hit a utility pole.

A 22-year-old woman passenger was freed from the vehicle by the Bermuda Fire and Rescue Service.

The police spokeswoman added: “Both occupants were conveyed to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and were later discharged.”
