Bermudian achieves King’s Scout Award
A Bermudian has achieved the highest recognition in scouting for adventure and skill development.
Dwayne Fields, the Chief Scout of The Scout Association based in London, celebrated Conor Sinclair at a special occasion at Windsor Castle on Sunday.
Set against the historic backdrop of the castle’s Quadrangle, the event brought together scouts, families and supporters to mark milestones in the lives of King’s Scouts.
The award recognises outstanding personal achievement in scouts aged 16 to 25 who complete a series of ambitious challenges. These can include volunteering in the community, undertaking an expedition and taking part in residential experiences.
Scouts must also develop an existing talent or learn new skills that build on their scouting achievements, while delivering projects that leave a lasting legacy within their local communities.
Mr Sinclair, 25, said: “I am extremely proud and humbled to have achieved the King’s Scout Award.
“I will always cherish the memories and life skills I’ve gained along the way.
“I hope that I can inspire other young scouts in Bermuda to pursue their King’s Scout Award and embrace all that scouting has to offer.”
Mr Sinclair, who lives in Bermuda and works at Axa XL as an actuarial analyst, joined the scouts aged 8. He progressed through the 19th Cub Scouts and the 1st Bermuda Explorers, and completed his journey as a Network Scout.
He has represented Bermuda numerous times including in 2015 when he was one of six scouts selected to attend the 23rd World Scout Jamboree in Yamaguchi, Japan.
After forming bonds with the Welsh scouting contingent in Japan, Mr Sinclair was invited to join the Welsh Explorer Unit K2 in Budapest, Hungary.
Then in 2019, he attended his second World Scout Jamboree in West Virginia, US, as a member of the International Service Team.
Mr Sinclair has been recognised for his commitment to the Scouts with several awards, including the Chief Scout’s Platinum and Diamond awards.
He also received a Duke of Edinburgh Gold Award through an expedition in the Bahamas.
Mr Fields said: “Huge congratulations to every single one of you on achieving your King’s Scout Award. This is something truly special. It shows the grit, determination and passion you’ve put into your scouting journey.
“You’ve stepped up, shown leadership, pushed yourselves and made a real difference to the people around you. That’s what being a scout is all about.
“This award isn’t just a pat on the back for what you’ve done so far, it’s a reminder of the incredible potential you’ve got for whatever comes next.
“I’m excited to see where you go from here. Keep pushing forward, keep saying ‘yes’ to new challenges and keep leading the way.”
Mr Sinclair, a former Mount Saint Agnes Academy valedictorian, was awarded the Axa XL Scholarship in 2019.
He also won the 2019 Bermuda Outstanding Teen Award for Academic Achievement in the male category.
