Internet outage hits One customers across island
A service outage has hit One Communications customers in “various parts of the island”, the company acknowledged at the weekend. Customers were advised there was no action required on their part.
The company said today that about 15 per cent of its broadband customers had been affected.
At 9am, the firm’s website appeared to be out of commission. Commenters on One Communications’ Facebook page were reporting this morning that they were still out of service.
Service users from St George’s, Sandys, Warwick and Smith’s appeared to be affected, according to posts on social media, with some tracing the outage to early yesterday afternoon.
Shortly after noon, the company advised that it had tracked down the source of the problem and said staff were working “around the clock” to restore service.
Customers were advised not to unplug or reset their modems and networking equipment.
The company added: “This will support service reconnection once restoration work is completed.”
Niall Sheehy, chief executive at One Communications, said: “We understand how important reliable connectivity is to our customers, whether for work, education, communication or entertainment.
“Our teams are fully mobilised and focused on restoring service as quickly as possible. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and thank customers for their patience while this work continues.”
The company added that it was providing regular updates through its social-media channels.
