Trott sisters inspire Lindo’s Tigers to big win over Docksiders

Jahkenya Trott scored 28 goals for Lindo’s Tigers to guide the team to a 52-18 triumph over Docksiders in the only Netball League seniors match played on the opening day of the season on Saturday,

The Tigers MVP got support from her twin sister Jahtuere, who contributed 15 goals as their team made a strong start to the league campaign. The other goals were scored by best defender, Diarra Christopher, who netted five and D'onnisha Gardener with four. Jordyn Ming was the best attacker for the Tigers.

Naomi Szmierek scored 11 goals for Docksiders, followed by Charlie Evans on four, while Stephanie Hawkes provided two. Ruth Ellen was the Docksiders MVP, Ciara Izuchukwu the best attacker and their outstanding defender was Charlotte Evans.

Anthony Mouchette, the Tigers coach is not looking too far ahead with one of the pre-season favourites.

“Pre-season training is paying off,’’ Mouchette said.

“We worked on fitness and ball-handling skills. Training sessions include isolation of different components of the game with the basics as our foundation. We don’t want to get ahead of ourselves as the season just started. We will take one game at a time.”

In the under-17 league, Jaelyn Rewan-Lambert was on fire as she scored 30 goals to give Storm a 44-30 win over Dandy Stars. Jazya Brimmer-Peets weighed in with 11 goals and three came from MVP Jamir Hatherley. Jaiden Durrant was the best attacker for Storm, while the best defender was Sa’Ray Beach.

Stars got their goals from Moriah Bridgewater, who had 19, best attacker Sioma Rudo added 11 goals, and Te’Meira Rutherford was the most outstanding defender for the vanquished side.

MVP Hailey Trott recorded 18 goals in Phoenix Fire’s 38-25 win against North Village. She got support from Kammie Mills and Mahkaylie Smith, who both scored ten. Kylie Smith was named the best defender for the winning side.

Akina Williams led the scoring for Village with 15 goals, while Ra’eesah Robinson and Jzari Zuill-Dillas found the target five times each. Taliah Wade was the Village’s best attacker and MVP, while the best defender was Tanah Edwards.

Storm Lightning defeated Storm Thunder 31-6 in an under-14 game. Malaysia Furbert, Lightining’s best attacker, and Naomi Crofton scored 12 goals each, Ameerah Outerbridge chipped in with six, while MVP Day’asha Dill scored once. Jaylah Ible was named best defender for the victorious team.

In the second under-14 match, Rangers won 23-4 over North Village. E’Rynn Paynter, the Rangers MVP top scored with 18 goals, and Cindy Darrell was on target five times. Jade Simons was the best attacker for Rangers, while Ja’miyah Johnston was adjudged the most outstanding defender.

In the under-11 league, which is more developmental and with no emphasis placed on results, North Village faced Dandy Stars in the first game of the season.

Ariah Tucker was the Village MVP and also the best defender, while Davi Wade took home the most outstanding attacker accolade. Olivia Darrell was the MVP as well as best attacker for Stars, and the best defender was Ra’Maya Robinson.

Storm and Phoenix Sparks clashed in the second match. MVP and best attacker for Storm went to Sariah Grant. For the Sparks, Kenzie McCrary bagged the MVP, Lyon Simons was voted as the best attacker, while A’mariss Dyer won best defender.
