Bermudian trio Daniel Augustus, Michael Sims and Camiko Smith will face some notable overseas competition during the Grey Goose World Par 3 Championship which starts tomorrow at Fairmont Southampton’s Turtle Hill Golf Club.

This year’s 36-hole competition will see a number of professional golfers from around the world compete for the title and a share of the $75,000 purse.

They include Chip Beck, a four-times PGA Tour winner, three-times American Ryder Cup member and one of only six players who have shot 59 on the PGA Tour.

Also playing are Charlie Rymer, a Golf channel analyst and web.com winner, Trish Johnson, a 19-times winner on the Ladies European Tour and three-times LPGA Tour winner and Solheim Cup member, as well as Tom Gillis, a web.com winner and former PGA Tour member. Oliver Tubb, the PGA of Canada’s No-3 ranked player is also competing.

“We’ve got some amazing talent from all across the world teeing it up this week for the Grey Goose World Par 3 Championship,” said Adam LeBrun, the tournament director.

“At the risk of sounding cliché, it really is a wide open championship and any one of the numerous nice players in the field could hoist the trophy at the end of the weekend.”

Players in this year’s eighth Grey Goose World Par 3 also have an opportunity to win $1 million in the hole-in-one shoot-out sponsored by Greg Norman Apparel and the Fairmont Southampton. The shoot-out will feature two professional and two amateur players.

“Adding this exciting element to the Grey Goose World Par 3 Championship rounds out one of the best — and most fun — tournaments in Bermuda,” said Paul Adams, the Turtle Hill director of golf. “The possibility of someone becoming an instant millionaire with just one swing of the club is electrifying.”

Professional and amateur participants will also compete in two closest-to-the-hole contests on the 9th and 18th holes during tomorrow’s first round, with the four winners (two professionals and two amateurs) participating in the $1-million shoot-out later that evening on No 18. The $1-million shoot-out will be live streamed through the PGA of Canada’s Facebook page.

Past champions of the championship include Augustus, Nick Taylor, the PGA Tour winner, Ian Doig, a PGA of Canada member, American Jordan Mitchell, Mark Mouland of the European Senior Tour, Thomas Curtis and Rafael Becker, last year’s winner from Brazil.

In addition to the professionals in the championship, the field is rounded out by a list of amateurs from Bermuda, the United States, Canada and Europe, all vying for titles.
