Medal glory on final day

Silver Level 13-years-olds Ava Marshall, Trinity Wilson, and Tomei Talbot competed on the all-around in Orlando, Florida, earlier this week

Tabytha Hofheins and Anna Francoeur both won medals for Bermuda on the final day of the USAIGC World Championships in Orlando, Florida, yesterday.

Hofheins, who was Bermuda’s most decorated athlete at the Championships, won two gold medals in the vault, bars and a bronze on the floor, adding to the silver she captured in the all-around on Wednesday. She was competing in the 15 to division.

Francoeur, 11, the youngest competitor in the Platinum division, won gold in the balance beam. And while she was the only gymnast in her age division, her score was the second highest out of all the Platinum competitors.

More than 1,200 gymnasts from the United States, Canada, England and South Africa took part in the event.

Included in Bermuda’s squad of 34 was Gemma Lightbourne who will represent the Island in rhythmic gymnastics at the Commonwealth Games in Glasgow next month.
