Ebola nurse back in hospital

Pauline Cafferkey, the former Bermuda nurse

Former Bermuda nurse Pauline Cafferkey has been admitted to hospital for a third time since contracting Ebola, according to reports in Britain.

Ms Cafferkey, 39, from Scotland, has been transported to Royal Free Hospital in London, which has Britain’s only high-level isolation unit used for treating infectious diseases, after developing a late complication from her previous infection.

Ms Cafferkey, who worked as a nurse in King Edward VII Memorial Hospital’s Cooper Ward from September 2005 to February 2007, picked up the illness while working in Sierra Leone with Save The Children. She recovered from serious symptoms early last year, but was admitted for more than a week due to complications last October.

An NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde spokesman is quoted in The Daily Mail: “Under routine monitoring by the Infectious Diseases Unit, Pauline Cafferkey has been admitted to hospital for further investigations.

“To protect patient confidentiality, we will not be publishing regular updates on this patient’s condition.”
