Belco has urged customers to pay their bills remotely this week as stay at home orders come into effect.

A Belco spokesman said the company will close its head office on Serpentine Road for the duration of the order, which starts tomorrow (Tuesday), but several remote payment options will be available.

“Customers can sign-up for an account at www.belco.bm where they can view their account balance, or they can call 299-2800 between 8.30am and 5pm and a Customer Service Representative will be happy to provide their outstanding balance, the spokesman said.

“They can also send an e-mail to info@belco.bm to sign up for e-billing and bills will be e-mailed to them.

“Customers may also pay their Belco bill online at www.belco.bm using Mastercard, Visa or America Express, sign-up for on-demand debit and direct debit services or opt to pay through local online banking or via an ATM.”

The spokesman said scheduled power interruptions for maintenance work have been postponed and that meter readers will not visit customer homes because of the Covid-19 regulations.

He added: “If you do not have an AMI meter and you receive a bill that says ’***THIS IS AN ESTIMATED BILL***’ on the right-hand side of the bill, customers may take a photo of their meter and submit to info@belco.bm where the bill will be updated to reflect the actual reading.”

Wayne Caines, Belco president, said: “At Belco we are continuing to ensure business continuity and assist our customers during these unprecedented times.

“I would like to thank our dedicated staff who continue to keep our plant and operations running 24 hours a day and also our customers for their understanding and co-operation as we work to implement best practices to limit the spread of Covid-19.

“We are making it easier for our customers to receive and pay their bills and are available online, via phone and e-mail and our customer service representatives will assist in any way we can.”

A spokesman for AirCare said it would continue to support and service customers in the essential services such as King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, stores and banks, while an emergency team will be on call if critical issues arise.

Brendan Stones, AirCare general manager, said: “AirCare is committed to maintaining our customers’ facilities whilst also ensuring the health and safety of our staff and customers.

“Our office at 25 Serpentine Road will be closed during the stay at home order and we are asking customers to use available online services through our website at www.aircare.bm, offering information, sales and service requests and also by making payments using online banking.”

Customers can also contact AirCare on 292-7342 or e-mail info@aircare.bm
