Bermuda Hospitals Board has said black smoke seen coming from King Edward VII Memorial Hospital this morning was caused by the boilers and was not unusual.
Members of the public were speculating via social media that there was a fire at the building.
A spokeswoman for BHB said: “The black smoke observed was a result of the steam boilers' combustion process as they utilise fuel.
“This may occur from time to time during their operation and routine maintenance.”
