Barca will set the record straight at Camp Nou

Chelsea have put themselves in the driving seat against Barcelona after their superb 1-0 win over the Spanish giants at Stamford Bridge this week. They were somewhat fortunate against Barca who dominated but couldn’t find the goals their superior possession probably warranted. But, credit to the Blues, they defended for their lives and rode their luck and they will have to go and get the job done at the Camp Nou.Not many teams go to Barca and get a result; Barca are the best team in the world and my money is still on them to progress to the Champions League final.I know Jose Mourinho’s Inter Milan went to the Camp Nou and achieved a result but Chelsea will certainly have their work cut out to stop Lionel Messi and Co.Barca might say they deserved to win due to the stats, but the biggest stat is on the scoreboard. They might point to the chances they missed, but Chelsea had one shot on goal and scored from it. That’s what you call efficiency.Didier Drogba flopped and fell all over the place, slowing the game down to keep Barca’s rhythm out of sync. That’s to Drogba’s credit because you have the choice of how you play and people can complain all they want but his team won the game. Ramires also had a good match and you can’t disregard his efforts and how he went about his business. With all this being said, if Barca are clinical in front of goal then it should end up a comfortable win for them in next week’s second leg.Real Madrid didn’t have it their own way either losing to Bayern Munich, who are a tough team to play against; they are technical and disciplined. They did their homework on Madrid and heading into the second leg it is all to play for.The Bernabeu isn’t an easy place to go and it may be a case of how many if Munich don’t come out to play. But their players and coaching staff know what to do and they need to play to their strengths.Everyone wants the all-Spanish final, but both have tough roads in front of them. If I was playing someone I would want Chelsea, but they are no pushovers so it will be an interesting two games. For Chelsea they have to focus on finishing in the top four of the Premier League to guarantee Champions League football for next season and also have an FA Cup final. They can’t go to Arsenal and lose and then pin their hopes on defeating Barca. Yes, Chelsea’s fate is in their own hands and they’ve played themselves into position where they are in the thick of the action during the business end of the season. This weekend’s El Clasico between Barca and Madrid will pretty much define the La Liga, although Barca would still need some help from someone else to overhaul Madrid even if they win. There are certainly some interesting matches ahead of us as the season draws to its close, which should certainly provide some fascinating viewing.
