Local firm hired to build new Airport lounge
the Island's Airport.
Bermuda Airport Executive Lounge Ltd., which will trade as The Longbird Club, will build the lounge which should be open by September 1 this year.
The area is part of multi-million dollar improvements being carried out by Government in conjunction with the private sector at the Airport.
Work includes renovating the Airport's concession areas, including shops and restaurants, as well as the runway and lights.
Bermuda Airport Executive Lounge president Robin Gilbert said support for the project is being given by Badger International Group Ltd., a Bermuda company specialising in consultancy and management to the aviation industry.
He said the name Longbird was chosen to help preserve a piece of history, as Longbird House has been demolished.
Entry to The Longbird Club will be limited to members and guests and various levels of membership will be available, said Mr. Gilbert.
The company is to write to individuals, frequent fliers and businesses to see if they want to be members and is drawing up brochures about the club and what it offers.
Inside the club will be work stations with computer modems, a conference room, lounge or bar seating, telephones, fax machines and a photocopier service.
Club staff will also being able to help with hotel reservations, limousines and theatre bookings.
"The service premise will be `if it can be done we will do it','' added Mr.
Gilbert.
