Cruise ships bring 6,000-plus to Island
Island this week.
Leading the charge was the Royal Caribbean Cruise Line's Song of America which arrived on Tuesday and berthed in St. George's with 1,463 passengers on board.
The vessel was due to switch to Hamilton last night, said John S. Darrell spokeswoman Marie MacPherson, but it would depend on how bad the weather was.
Following close behind was the Zenith which berthed in Hamilton on Monday morning with 1,393 passengers on board.
It was due to switch to St. George's yesterday but remained in Hamilton due to high winds, said Meyer Agencies Ltd. spokesman Stephen Paynter.
The Zenith , of Celebrity Cruise Lines, was scheduled to depart today, as was Norwegian Cruise Lines' Dreamward which arrived in St. George's on Monday with 1,281 passengers on board.
The Dreamward transferred to Hamilton on Monday night, instead of Tuesday as it is scheduled to, because high winds were expected, said Mr. Paynter.
And bringing up the rear were the Royal Majesty , out of Boston, and the Meridian , from Newport News, with 1,087 and 1,086 passengers respectively.
Both vessels arrived on Tuesday, as scheduled, with Royal Majesty berthing in St. George's and Meridian going to King's Wharf in Dockyard.
Elsewhere, Container Ship Management vice-president Robert Lewis reported that the Oleander arrived on Sunday and off loaded 120 dry containers, 35 refrigerated containers, three 40-foot containers of building supplies, two cars and two trailers of steel before leaving Tuesday.
Mr. Paynter said the Bermuda Islander arrived on Monday morning from Salem, New Jersey, with 93 containers including 12 refers.
It also off-loaded a boat and three horses before sailing on Tuesday afternoon.
And the Somers Isles arrived on Monday from Fernandina Beach with 99 containers including six refers.
Mr. Paynter said its loose cargo included four boats, 61 bundles of various structural steel and decking and 39 bundles of lumber. It sailed the following morning.
