Mixed review for shipboard show

to allow a cruise ship to have a nightclub show while in port.

Tourism Minister David Allen has allowed the cruise ship Crown Dynasty to have Bermudian entertainers peform onboard on Sunday nights when it was berthed in Dockyard due to the lack of nightlife there.

"If Government and the West End Development Corporation offered more things to do, the tourists might come off the ship,'' said Jodi Noye, supervisor of Pirate's Landing.

And Dockyard Marketing Committee chairwoman Frog and Onion pub owner Carol West said: "We do feel there isn't adequate entertainment in the area.'' Azure nightclub manager Kenny Bean said business at his end of the Island was already affected by cruise ship shows.

"Ships tell me they can't send people over because they already have shows,'' he said.

"And it's the same shows everywhere. Everyone does the same thing,'' he continued, noting that it was expensive to bring in original acts from overseas.

"My cost is for a ticket, hotel, permit to bring them in and a salary.'' And he added: "I can't blame the ship. It's the way to get revenue. Now the only thing they pay is departure tax.'' PIZZA CHAIN STOPS FREE DELIVERY SERVICE EAT BUC Pizza chain stops free delivery service A shortage of labour and rising costs has forced the Island's only delivery pizza restaurant to stop its free service.

From Monday, Four Star Pizza will now charge $2 for each delivery it makes.

Owner Marico Thomas said escalating costs and the scarcity of drivers willing to work for $14 an hour had forced the move.

"We had to make a policy decision to end free delivery,'' he said. "It is the whole price structure of trying to do business. We have been uncomfortable with raising prices and haven't done so for two years.

"I have spoken to several customers about it. They understand that the cost of doing business in Bermuda is not cheap. We have been continually absorbing increased costs...we can no longer do that.

"We can't get staff to work for the money right now.'' At present, staff either get $14 per hour or $11 per hour plus $1 for each delivery they make -- in addition to any tips they receive.

"They just don't want to work for that. Bermuda is fully employed. I have got to go looking for employees.'' BA FLIGHT CANCELLED FLY BA flight cancelled The threat of mechanical problems caused a British Airways (BA) flight to be cancelled yesterday.

BA flight 2233 was experiencing mechanical problems throughout the day at Gatwick Airport, according to the airline's local general manager Phillip Troake, and cancelling the flight for safety reasons was the number one concern.

"We had a creeping delay at Gatwick all morning and afternoon,'' he said.

"They thought they could fix it, but in the end, we had to cancel the flight.'' During the 24 hour delay passengers, were housed in hotels by the airline.

The flight is expected to be on time for today and will arrive at Bermuda International Airport at 6.15 p.m.

Mr. Troake advised people who are meeting the airline this evening to call and check for an on time arrival.
