Skippers keep eye on storm Ana

Captains of at least two of the Island's regular cruise ships were keeping their departure times flexible.

Meyer Agencies reported that the Zenith , which arrived on Monday from New York with a record 1,620 passengers, remained in Hamilton due to pending inclement weather.

The ship would have normally shifted to St. George's yesterday morning.

Its departure time had not yet been confirmed.

Meanwhile the Dreamward , which also arrived on Monday from New York with 1,448 passengers, shifted to Hamilton on Tuesday morning.

It is scheduled to leave the Island this morning.

And the Meridian , which arrived from New York on Tuesday morning with 1,332 passengers, is scheduled to leave tomorrow afternoon.

Royal Majesty was also scheduled to leave tomorrow afternoon.

Local agent John S. Darrell said the cruise ship arrived from Boston on Tuesday with 1,246 passengers.

It also reported that the Song of America arrived at Penno's Wharf, St.

George's on the same day from New York with 1,484 passengers.

The cruise ship shifted to the Number One Terminal at Front Street, in Hamilton. It is also scheduled to leave tomorrow afternoon, depending upon the weather.

In news from the docks, Container Ship Management said the Oleander container ship arrived from Port Elizabeth, New Jersey on Sunday with 132 containers and three refrigerated ones. Three cars, a jeep, and two trailers were also offloaded before the ship left the Island on Tuesday.

Meyer reported that the Bermuda Islander arrived from Salem, New Jersey on Monday with 106 containers, including 12 refrigerated containers. It left on Tuesday morning.

Meanwhile the Somers Isles arrived from Florida with 84 containers, ten of which were refrigerated.

It also carried loose cargo, including seven pleasure boats, one truck, a generator, and eight bundles of pipe and steel. The ship is scheduled to leave this morning.

Meyer also reported that the British/Grand Cayman-registered motor yacht Eco arrived from Fort Lauderdale, Florida on June 29.

The 210-foot yacht, considered to be the world's fastest, berthed at Ordinance Island before shifting to Hamilton.

Also expected in local waters this week is the Iwo Jima-class assault helicopter carrier USS Inchon .

The ship is scheduled to arrive tomorrow for refuelling at the Esso pier in St. George's.

Trans-Atlantic cable ship C.S. Global Mariner arrived on Tuesday to begin laying TeleBermuda International's fibre optic cable across some 1,350 kilometres of ocean floor between Bermuda and Tuckerton, New Jersey.
