Terceira to head Canadian Marriott
Canada.
Tim Terceira, son of ex-UBP MP Clarence Terceira and his late wife Mary, will become Marriott vice-president for the new Canadian region.
Canada's 13 Marriott and Renaissance hotels were part of the New England region of the US.
But Mr. Terceira's appointment signals a drive by Marriott to boost Canada as a market with expansion plans to push the number of their hotels there up to 30 or more.
Mr. Terceira, a graduate of Cornell University, worked in Canada for the Four Seasons chain after graduating in the late 1970s.
He later spent time working at the Elbow Beach Hotel in Bermuda before joining Marriott, although he returned to the Island to work at Marriott's Castle Harbour Resort.
His last posting with Marriott was as area general manager for northern New Jersey, looking after three hotels, and general manager of the Saddle Brook Marriott as well.
Mr. Terceira's hotels won several awards for guest satisfaction and market excellence.
Before that, he worked as general manager of New Jersey's Park Ridge Marriott, a job he took up after a three-year stint as resident manager at the group's Bermuda hotel.
Mr. Terceira, married to Karen and with two children, will move to Toronto in early January.
