Training course for group counsellors

Physical Abuse Centre will be hosting a training course for prospective group counsellors next month.

The workshop, which is to focus on batterer's treatment and intervention services, will be held in the hall of the Cathedral between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m.

on April 3 to 6.

Presenters at the workshop will include Ms Paula Basil, the founder and executive director of the largest batterers' treatment programme in the Orlando, Florida tri-county area, and Ms Joyce Pastorek, the co-founder and assistant director of the Spouse Abuse Batterers Intervention Programme.

The cost of the course, which is designed to equip participants with the latest techniques in dealing with the growing number of domestic violence victims in Bermuda, costs $100 a person, though one-day-only spaces are available at $25 a person.

TEEN FINED FOR DRUGS CTS Teen fined for drugs Police pried open the clenched hand of a man who refused to surrender an envelope containing drugs.

Prays Evans, 19, of Pembroke admitted in Magistrates' Court yesterday to possessing 0.55 grams of cannabis.

Police spotted Evans making a transaction with another man in the St. Monica's Road area on November 11.

As Police approached, Evans fled and a high speed chase ensued as far as Roberts Avenue, Police prosecutor Sgt. Donald Grant said.

When asked, Roberts refused to hand over an envelope containing the drugs but Police forced open his hand and arrested him.

Senior Magistrate the Wor. William Francis fined Evans $150 and warned him to stay away from drugs.
