Get on this year's Cup Match catwalk
Forget cricket. People go to Cup Match to see -- and be seen -- in the most colourful summer fashions.
And watch out, because according to those in the fashion world there will be legs and skin galore.
According to Hamilton shops youngsters will most likely be wearing colourful two-pieces with `coochy' shorts or see-through dresses and wraps.
Ladies buyer for Calypso, Cathy Lombardi, said there are a variety of outfits women can wear for Cup Match.
"We cater to two different types of ladies -- younger and older. With the younger set, there is a lot of skin showing and the pareos (wraps) are being used as street wear.
"We also have the hot shorts, boot legged pants, one-shoulder tops, halter tops, they want to wear anything that is briefed and cropped. Young people are not the least bit afraid and they are very print-oriented keeping it grungy street wear.
"Limes, oranges and purples seem to be the colours.'' Mrs. Lombardi added: "For the older group we have light cool sundresses, whether short or long, they are what is prevailing, with colouring being very important.
"The brights are definitely back in for all age groups with an emphasis on limes, blues and aquas.'' She also said hats are in for the holidays not only for sun protection but because they are stylish.
"For a lot of reasons, hats are multi-purpose and they look good. The broad hats will be popular for Cup Match, everyone seems to be wearing them. They're not just for the beach any more.'' Mrs. Lombardi added that sandals are a must for the holidays and come in everything from flats to heels, platforms to wedges, and there are thongs, toe grips. Women like anything that is bare and strappy.'' A.S. Cooper has a whole Cup Match collection for both St. George's and Somerset supporters.
Assistant ladies buyer Antoinette Caisey said: "Our batiks are the main things selling for Cup Match and the Cup Match collection is included.
"We have a wide variety of holiday outfits this year and for the first time we have our batiks in Cup Match colours -- the navy and light blue for St.
George's and the red and navy for Somerset.
"We also have pants, shorts and T-shirts.'' She added: "In this particular line we have an assortment of ynwayan and swing dresses. We also have our Cup Match sarongs with Cup Match written on them, we have eight different designs.
"Some have sculptured people on them and some are abstract designs. We also have a reversible hat with one team on one side and the other on the other side.'' Mrs. Caisey also said the store carried striped crocheted hats in Cup Match colours and beaded design bracelets and anklets also in the teams' colours.
"We have our other usual batik line in colourful short dresses and long dresses and two piece pant sets.

Drifit has a layer that pulls moisture off your body and another that later dries it. It is definitely a much cooler fabric.
"We have a large selection of sports apparel for men, women, boys, girls and toddlers.'' Mr. Mayeaux added that the store has been seeing a big crowd of young and old people coming in to buy Cup Match outfits. Parents are also coming in to buy for the younger kids.
"We have racks of all different colours, and sizes and we also have a lot of new sandals, aqua shoes and the latest styles in Nike, Reebok and Fila.'' At Grant's Ladies Boutique, women seem to be buying up the ethnic pieces as well as tie-dyes, dashikis in tops and dresses, and long dresses in multi-bright colours. That's the overall theme for the year.
Part owner of Dicty Fashions, on Reid Street, Esther Douglas, who owns the boutique with Roxanne Haynes, said they have a variety of Cup Match outfits.
"We have short sets in tie-dye blouses and we have some tie-dye shorts and jumpers,'' she said. "We also have spaghetti-strap dresses and the tops in tie-dye and we have linen in spaghetti straps.'' Mrs. Douglas added that the store also carried accessories such as shades and hats, with bags in the popular summer colours like orange, green, red black and white.
"We have the cool tie in the back dresses in orange, green, blue and black and we also have the slinky dresses in short and longer lengths.'' She also said in addition to women's wear, they also recently included the men in a store next door called Men's Too.
"We carry Tommy Hilfiger, for FUBU we have the shorts and the shirts, jeans and we also have some Calvin Klein shirts and we also have matching sun visors as well.
"For the younger guys we have the mesh outfits along with belts and hats.''
