Conductor marks 50th concert in Bermuda
Philharmonic Society's chorus and orchestra, will mark his 50th concert with an orchestra-only concert in the Anglican Cathedral.
Included in the programme are Beethoven's Overture: Leonora No. 3, Grieg's Peer Gynt Suite and Beethoven's famous 5th Symphony. Mr. Garton will also be offering his own composition -- his first effort at writing for orchestra, in fact, while a student at the Royal Academy of Music -- two short pieces entitled Prelude and Stravaganza.
Finally, soloist Nancy Smith, who obtained her LRSM in Flute Performance in May, will perform Cecile Chaminade's Concertino for Flute and Orchestra. Ms Smith, a pupil of Antoinette Davis and Graham Garton, has participated in master classes with William Bennett in Bermuda and England.
The Philharmonic Concert takes place at the Anglican Cathedral on Saturday, November 2 at 8 p.m. Tickets at $20 ($15 for senior and students) are obtainable from Society members, The Harbourmaster, Meyer Travel and Piano Plus.
