Belco staff threatened
Frustrated householders left without power have been threatening Belco staff.
Angry customers have been turning on hard-pressed electricity workers in person as well as making abusive phone calls.
As of 9.00 last night one thousand customers were still without power ? down from 25,000 on Monday.
Belco spokeswoman Linda Smith Wilson said: "We understand there is a lot of frustration out there and it is particularly frustrating for those who can see their neighbours have lights but they do not.
"However the hurricane was on Monday and we have only had two full days of restoration as Monday's efforts were hampered by continuing rain and high winds.
"Unfortunately we have had reports from a few staff that they have been both personally threatened and threatened on the telephone by members of the public.
"Obviously, this cannot be tolerated and where appropriate, we will be reporting threatening behaviour to authorities."
She said staff were doing their best.
MP Suzann Roberts Holshouser, whose St. David's home is still without power, last night said Belco needed to let customers know when it would be turned back on.
She said Belco's website which shows where outages lie did not have her road on ? despite prompting from residents.
She said: "They should establish a time frame so people can organise themselves."
Belco admit their restoration process is slow at this stage but crews are working from 7 a.m. through to, in some cases, well past midnight, said Mrs Smith Wilson.
The greatest number of jobs are in the west and central parishes, however, there are still significant problems in the eastern parishes.
The spokeswoman said assessors and planners are making arrangements so crews that come behind them have everything on hand to make repairs. When these assessors can make a quick fix, they are doing so said the company which is borrowing BTC bucket trucks for the work.
Mrs. Smith Wilson said: "We are asking customers who are still out, who have not called us since yesterday afternoon, to please do so by telephoning our outage reporting number at 955.
"This is so that we can cross-check their outage with our Outage Management System information to ensure we are not missing anyone."
She said Belco's website at was updated with information on progress and the company was trying to put out more information regarding the schedule of restoration work.
The Lyceum Preschool in Bailey's Bay will open today ? one day behind other Government schools after a fallen electric cable was removed from the driveway.
