A husband and wife leapt to safety after their car caught fire on Court Street. Willis and Kathy-Anne Steed, from Pembroke, had stopped opposite the Fish Hut restaurant at about 9.45 p.m. on Friday when they noticed a burning smell.They got out of their burgundy Peugeot moments before its engine burst into flames. Mr. Steed said the fire could have been caused by an electrical fault. "The car looks like it's going to be alright, but the engine doesn't," he said. Firefighters extinguished the blaze while Police cordoned off the road to traffic.

Public thanked after missing girls traced

Police have thanked the public for helping them trace two missing girls. Kayla DeSilva Roberts, 13, and 15-year-old Seanae Smith were found safe and well at 11.20 p.m. on Saturday by Police on patrol in Sandys. The girls had last been seen at the Brangman Home on Middle Road, Smith's, the previous Sunday.

Motorcyclist collides with tree

A motorcyclist was taken to hospital with rib injuries after he lost control of his bike and collided with a tree in the early hours of Saturday. Police are appealing for information about the crash, which happened on Somerset Road in Sandys near the junction with Beacon Hill Road, at about 3.30 a.m.

The rider, a 19-year-old Sandys man, is believed to have lost control on a bend as he travelled south on Somerset Road. He was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital where he was in a stable condition on a general ward last night. The bike was extensively damaged. Witnesses are asked to call P.c Arthur Dill on 234-1010.
