A man charged with entering a building unlawfully was imprisoned yesterday for failing to pay almost $3,000 worth of traffic fines.
Leigh Eugene Hall, 50, of North Shore Road, Pembroke pleaded not guilty to three counts related to unlawful entry.
On July 22, the defendant allegedly entered Bierman?s Concrete Products and did unlawful damage, entered the garage and did unlawful damage and wilfully and unlawfully damaged a safe, various windows and a printer exceeding $60 in value.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo originally gave Hall bail until he found he had multiple unpaid traffic tickets.
The tickets totalled $2,950. Hall asked for time to pay them but was refused since they went back to October of last year.
Mr. Tokunbo said: ?You?re a professional traffic violator. You have no regard for the law.?
The defendant received 100 days in prison, effective immediately. He will appear in court on October 18 for his unlawful entering trial.
A Devonshire man who was already off the road for impaired driving repeated the same offence, a Magistrates? Courtroom heard yesterday.
Emanuel Pereira, 43, of Middle Road pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified and impaired driving both on July 6.
Police stopped him on Bean Dale Road. They asked him to put the bike on its stand and noticed his feet were unsteady and his speech was slurred.
He was arrested under the suspicion of impaired driving.
Although Pereira pleaded guilty to driving whilst disqualified, he argued Bean Dale was an estate road, not a public road.
Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo gave him a $500 fine for driving while disqualified, a $2,000 fine for impaired driving and disqualified him from all vehicles for 10 months.
A man has appeared in court charged with wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm.
Ezra Williams, 21, of Cedar Park, Devonshire, did not enter a plea in Magistrates? Court last week. The case was adjourned until August 18 and his bail was extended.
A Pembroke woman was yesterday charged with using offensive words towards Police officers.
Renee Beatrice Darrell, 38 of Middletown Drive pleaded not guilty in Magistrates? Court to the charges.
The court heard from crown counsel Nicole Smith that Darrell said to the officers: ?What the f**k you stop me for. F**k this?.
Her trial will take place on October 18. Darrell was bailed in the amount of $1,000.
A 21-year-old Devonshire man pleaded not guilty to three charges related to assault between July 29 and August 2.
Ezra Williams of Cedar Park was charged with unlawful assault on July 29 and possession of an offensive weapon ? a glass bottle ? and unlawful assault and grievous bodily harm on August 2. His trial will take place on October 24.
Williams was bailed in the amount of $3,000.
