'Great and Wonderful' along with the 'Scottish Sensation' set to grace the Folk Club stage
The Bermuda Folk Club will kick off the New Year with an Open Mic Night featuring some of the island's talented musicians and vocalists tomorrow night.Among some of the performers slated to grace the stage is John Bohan who has been a long-time performer who has amassed a strong following over the years. John is credited with organising the first BFC event for the year and has been hailed as one of The Bermuda LaCrosse Club's favourite performers.
Val Wallace, who has released a pair of albums locally and on occasion has teamed up with Dennis Eldridge, will once again grace the stage tomorrow night.
Meanwhile, Dennis, who doubles as the club's sound engineer and rhythm guitarist for Last Rites, has teamed forces with 'the girl with the Golden pipes' Jackie Ayres. The duo have a website www.myspace.com/jackiendennis which features some of the material the duo has debuted at the club in a past performance, along with Last Rites material. Jackie has also added the dance song Wonderland to the growing collection of songs on the site which is definitely worth visiting.
Another consummate performer is the 'Scottish Sensation' Scott Neil. Normally billed as a balladeer, Neil ranks up there among the Who's Who in the solo acts at the BFC. Neil's passionate delivery — along with an encyclopaedic knowledge of music — can make even the most obscure cover tune palatable. One source close to the Neil camp said that the 'Sensational One' would be performing a couple of original tunes including Aquamarine<$>.
Dubbed 'The Great and Wonderful' Michael Cacy will be performing, which is always a treat to say the least.
Rounding out the list of performers are the melody makers from Nova Scotia, Jennifer and Andrew.
Doors at the Old Colony Club venue, Trott Road, Hamilton open at 7.30 p.m. and showtime is 8 p.m. Admission is $8 for members and $10 for non-members.
