Man charged with machete assaults
A 24-year-old Pembroke man was yesterday charged in Magistrates' Court with slashing a woman's throat and using a machete on Police vehicles following an incident in Hamilton this weekend.
Leonard O'Donnell Rayner, of Boss's Cove, Pembroke was not required to plead to the 15 indictable charges, which are alleged to have happened early on Saturday morning.
Rayner was charged with attempting to enter the woman's Devonshire home and caused grievous bodily harm to the woman by slashing her throat. He was also charged with wounding the woman, assaulting her and damaging her property.
He was also charged with threatening two Police officers, telling one: "Punk a** b**ch, if I ever see you with your wife I am going to cut her throat so you can watch her bleed to death. All I have to do is make a phone call and I will find out where you live. If you have any kids I will kill them too ... What if I get my hands on a nine millimetre, I will enjoy shooting you in your face. It will all be over."
He was also charged with threatening a second officer and assaulting both of them.
Rayner was also charged with damaging three Police vehicles by chopping them with a machete ? a prohibited weapon.
Rayner was charged with possession of a a kitchen knife ? an illegal bladed object.
Rayner was also charged with violently resisting arrest.
Despite a heavy Police presence in court, Rayner scowled and refused to stand at times. He was immediately taken out of court after the charges were read to him.
He was remanded in custody and will appear in court on November 28. He is represented by lawyer Elizabeth Christopher.
