Man hit with traffic charges
A 32-year-old Devonshire man received $500 in fines for having an unlicensed motorbike and was bailed for $2,000 for other traffic matters which he denied last week in Magistrates' Court.
Ireulle Simmons, 32, of Devonshire pleaded guilty to two counts of having an unlicensed motorbike on July 6 and August 2, 2006 but not guilty to speeding at 67 kph and not guilty to not having any third party insurance on August 2.
"I wasn't doing no speeding, your honour," he told Senior Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo. "The bike was insured but wasn't licensed. It was insured honest to date, but my insurance company told me they don't back date things, and the time is gone by."
The Senior Magistrate told Simmons that if he maintains his not guilty plea then the prosecution will have to prove its case.
"I am getting ready to go away and I don't know when I am coming back," said Simmons.
The Senior Magistrate said that was irrelevant.
He fined Simmons $250 for the two unlicensed motor vehicle charges. Because of previous warrants Simmons was asked to pay the money that day.
He was bailed for $1,000 on each ticket and asked to return for trial on October 17.
