Poll: 56% dissatisfaction with Island
More than half of Bermudians are not satisfied with the direction the country is progressing, a Research Innovations poll has revealed.
Over 400 Bermudians were questioned last month, of which 56.3 percent of whom said they were dissatisfied with the way things are going in Bermuda.
Just over a third of those polled, 32.1 percent, said they were satisfied and 11.6 percent said they were not sure what they thought.
The poll did not question why people were dissatisfied, whether it was lack of affordable housing, Bermuda?s soaring crime rate or something else.
While the percentage of dissatisfied citizens appears to be very damning it is not actually as bad as it was earlier in the year when polls from January and March indicated that 58.6 percent and 56.9 percent, respectively, of people said they were dissatisfied.
However, that does not mean that more Bermudians are now satisfied with the direction the country is heading.
After a five percent surge in the number of satisfied citizens, 37.6 percent, in March the percentage has returned to the just below the January number, 32.2 percent. Currently 32.1 percent of people polled said they were happy with Bermuda?s direction was heading.
This means that the number of people who are unsure about Bermuda?s direction has risen above the January rate of 9.1 percent in to 11.6 percent in July.
When last months poll was broken down into racial groups the majority of the black community, 51.4 percent, and white community, 65.4 percent, were not satisfied with the direction that Bermuda is heading in.
More people in the black community were satisfied, 33.8 percent, than members of the white community, 27.8 percent.
The Government faired better in the mixed community, black and white, where a majority of people said they were happy with Bermuda?s direction, 53.8 percent, while 46.2 percent expressed dissatisfaction.
The highest number of people who are unsure about the current direction was found in the black community, 14.8 percent.
There was no difference when the poll was broken down into income brackets with all incomes saying they were not happy.
