Using common sense always pays off, say Peter and Marvel
MARRIAGES that last are almost as rare as cahow's teeth these days ¿ especially those which last as long as that of St. David's couple Albert (Peter) Fox and his 83-year-old wife Marvel.
Today, the devoted couple celebrate their 63rd wedding anniversary.
They spoke with Mid-Ocean News about their lasting marriage and gave some pointers for married couples.
Mr. Fox, 84, said: "I met my wife when we were kids and we both went to St. George's School. Years later we were married at the Chapel of Ease Church (in St. David's)."
Mr. Fox said his happiest memory of the marriage was the day his daughter Elaine was born.
The couple also have a son, Albert, Jr., five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
Mr. Fox's father was "Warbaby" Fox, the legendary East End cricketer, entrepreneur, churchwarden and devout community member.
He owned the Black Horse Tavern and put it on the map with its local fish fare and fish chowder.
In 2006 the Government honoured him by naming the new ferry serving St. George's Warbaby Fox.
Mr. and Mrs. Fox, lifelong churchgoers, said it takes work and dedication to make a marriage work.
"The secret to making a marriage work for 63 years is love, patience, communication, trust in the Lord, and you have to give and take. Also, using common sense always pays off."
