Devonshire man had cannabis

A 33-year-old Devonshire man admitted in Magistrates' Court yesterday to possessing 2.11 grams of cannabis. Nairobi Javonni Smith pleaded guilty to having a controlled substance on September 18, 2005.

Crown counsel Larissa Burgess told the court, Police on South Shore Road, Warwick, pulled Smith over for a traffic issue at 1.15 a.m.

When the officers started to speak to him they observed he was nervous and sweating. Police then decided to search him under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Subsequently, the officer's attention became focused on Smith's right trousers pocket where they discovered a bag containing 'vegetable matter'.

Smith was arrested on suspicion of having cannabis and told the officer: "It's marijuana... you could give me a break?"

Back in court, Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner fined Smith, who was said to have previous convictions.

Cash stolen from business

There was a report of cash stolen on Friday from a Pitts Bay Road, Pembroke business. The complainant told Police that at some point between 5 p.m. Friday and 9 a.m. Monday, someone broke in.
