Expert continues on the stand

A US "blood splatter" expert showed a Supreme Court jury pictures of the gruesome scene where Allan Edward (Sleepy) Dill died.

The 35-year-old bled to death from a neck wound at his girlfriend Andrina Tamara Smith's apartment on October 16 2006.

Prosecutors claim Mr. Dill slapped Smith, 26, during an argument and she reacted by plunging a kitchen knife through a wooden door and into his neck as he tried to block her from a bedroom.

Smith is now on trial for murder — a charge she denies.

Yesterday, Florida-based forensic expert Jan Johnson showed examples of photographs she took at the scene — more than 300 in total. Some, she said, depicted "large volumes of blood" on the floor.

She also explained how her analysis involved making templates of the knife allegedly used by Smith, and cleaning it of blood and skin tissue to get fingerprints off it.

The jury was shown the door which had seven stab markings on it. Two did not go through to the other side while the other five did, said Ms Johnson.

The case continues.
