Mr. Smith, 48, was killed when his motorcycle collided with a teenage cyclist and a pedestrian in Ord Road, Paget. The accident, on Saturday evening, was the first road fatality of 2008.

Yesterday, his family paid tribute to the father-of-five who also lost a son, Chioke (Bruiser) Spencer, four years ago in a road accident at the age of 22.

Mr. Smith is survived by daughters Tamara Spencer, Shequita Wolffe, and sons DeAndrew Smith, 19, and Kieron Spencer, 18. He has two brothers - Rudette, 47, Theron, 46, and one sister, Donna, 45, and is also survived by his father Milo, and mother Gladys.

Theron Smith identified the body of his older brother on Saturday. Mr. Smith, a taxi driver and minister at the New Testament Church of God Healing Centre, Southampton, said: "He will be well missed by many and by all.

"He was open and honest, and assertive. When he put his hand to a task he did it without changing his mind. He always had a smile on his face and it had a real sparkle, as he had a gold tooth.

"Rudell loved to laugh and used to play jokes on a lot of people. He was like a friend and also a bodyguard - he watched people's backs for them."

Mr. Smith said: "We are taking this one day at a time and are going to have a viewing service on Thursday, followed by the funeral on Friday and then a family get-together in the evening, to help heal, encourage and inspire one another."

He added: "I just think this is a call of God, where he's going right now. God has chosen my brother at this point in time."

Mr. Smith, a mechanic, lived in Fork Lane, Southampton, and was a keen soccer player.

Sister Donna Simmons, 45, said: "He loved football and used to play for P.H.C. and then Southampton Rangers."

Miguel Franco was also a keen footballer. The 17-year-old was the second victim to die from a road traffic accident at the weekend.

Mr. Franco died in the early hours of Sunday from head and internal injuries, following an incident at midday on Friday.

Police say the teenager was travelling pillion on a motorcycle when it collided with a truck and a car in Middle Road, Warwick.

His death is the second tragedy to strike Warwick Academy in recent weeks.

On January 25, 15-year-old Dakarai Tucker lost his fight for life after suffering an aneurysm of the brain.

Yesterday, acting principal Harry Patchett said the school held a special assembly in the morning to remember Mr. Franco.

His fellow International Baccalaureate students in years 12 and 13 gathered at Barber Hall to comfort each other and talk to grief counsellors, which included two specially-trained Government employees.

Mr. Patchett said: "The school family came together and shared memories of Miguel.

"The mood is a very sombre one, the students and staff are reeling from this second tragedy. But although the children are very upset, they are already starting to pull together."

Mr. Patchett described Mr. Franco as a "very quiet student but very popular among staff and pupils".

"He was a keen football player and was a good all-round student who wanted to go on to college" he said.

"We have been in constant touch with the family and our thoughts and prayers are with them.

"I have talked to Miguel's sister Candida and his brother Paul, who seems to be bearing up well. Miguel was the third member of the family to attend Warwick Academy."

Mr. Franco was the son of Angelo and Isabel Franco of Astwood Road, Paget. He will be buried on Thursday.

Mr. Smith will be buried on Friday.
