Ex-Policewoman drops HRC appeal
Service has given up her battle.
The 26-year-old woman, who alleged a male colleague sexually harassed her at Somerset Police station, has abandoned her appeal against a Human Rights Commission ruling made earlier in the year.
The Human Rights Commission Board of Inquiry rejected her allegations that she had been harassed and that the Bermuda Police Service failed to provide an environment free from sexual harassment.
The appeal, which was initially pursued in August on the first ruling, was dropped recently. It could have been heard in the Supreme Court, but only on matters of law.
But, although the chance of any legal action by the complainant is now zero, the case has encouraged Police to review procedures in relation to sexual harassment.
The service is working with the HRC and its own human resources staff to see how such issues can be addressed.
However, a second set of sexual harassment allegations from another ex-female officer are still being investigated.
