So far, around 300 tickets at $100 for "A Night of Celebration'' have been sold, leaving close to 700 seats available for the event next Tuesday evening.

The Fairmont Southampton Princess party, which is being attended by Premier Jennifer Smith, aims to raise $100,000 to help pay for a Canadian consultant currently working with the hospitality industry.

Yesterday, Hotel Employers of Bermuda chief executive John Harvey said he was hoping people would come out and support the cause, for which several Bermudian entertainers will perform free of charge.

And he stressed it was a non-political event at which Ms Smith may make a few remarks.

"The Bermuda Industrial Union and the Hotel Employers of Bermuda got together for this most historic occasion. We decided to have a celebration, showcasing local musicians who are giving their time for free.'' As well as a four-course dinner, there will be entertainment from local acts including Gene Steede, Toni Robinson, Bermuda Strollers and the VIP Singers Choir.

Proceeds will go toward the cost of Toronto-based adviser Nadine Winter Inc., who is helping design a profit sharing scheme for Island hotels.

Five properties have signed up for the programme, which is being designed with the help of employees, management, unions and the Canadian company.

The aim is to improve profitability, productivity and guest satisfaction by having employees take more of an interest and pride in their work.

Elbow Beach, Sonesta Beach, Harmony Club, Southampton and Hamilton Princess are to take part in the scheme -- with each programme tailored for each particular location.

Tickets for the event can be obtained by calling 295-2127 or 292-0044.
