Prison for thief
cash and jewellery to support a drug habit was sentenced to six months imprisonment yesterday.
Shayne Dwayne Dillas, of Smith's Hill, pleaded guilty in Magistrates' Court on Monday to three separate charges of theft, breaking and entering.
Dillas admitted he had made a mistake and promised that he or his wife would reimburse the complainants by yesterday.
Acting Magistrate Justin Williams delayed sentencing until yesterday and ordered that Dillas be bailed for $3,000 with one like surety.
But yesterday, Crown counsel Veronica Daley said Police had spoken with all the victims and none had received any compensation.
Although Dillas claimed that the landlord of one of the residences he had broken into owed him money, Mrs. Daley said the landlord never owed Dillas money and did not even know him.
And Mrs. Daley said Dillas' wife told prosecutors they were divorced with minimal contact and she had no intention of making restitutions on his behalf.
Mr. Williams told Dillas: "I gave you an opportunity, you made promises (for restitution) and you've lived up to none of them... there's no excuse.''
