Throne Speech to be held outdoors

Governor Thorold Masefield will convene Parliament and read the Throne Speech in the grounds of the Cabinet Building at 11 a.m. on Friday.

In the past, the Throne Speech has been delivered in the Senate Chamber.

The ceremony will take place on the grass in front of the Cabinet Building, where the members of both Houses of Parliament and invited guests will be assembled.

The Bermuda Regiment will march through the Cabinet Building grounds and form up on Front Street, facing the Cabinet Building.

Mr. Masefield and his escort will arrive at the Cabinet Building at 10.45 a.m.

His arrival will be preceded by a 17-gun salute from the Bermuda Regiment Gun Troop located at Fort Hamilton.

He will receive the Royal Salute and will then accompany the Commanding Officer of the Bermuda Regiment to inspect the Guard of Honour. Mr. Masefield will then dispatch Black Rod to summon the House of Assembly to the Cabinet Office.

At 11 a.m. members of the House of Assembly, preceded by the Sergeant of Arms, bearing the Mace, the Clerk to the Legislature and the Speaker will enter the Cabinet Building grounds to commence the Convening of Parliament.

In the event of wet weather, the Convening of the legislature will take place within the Senate Chamber.
