Tourism Director to be named
be in the post by March.
A replacement for Gary Phillips, who has been in the job since 1986, will be selected from a short list already compiled.
Mr. Phillips is likely to stay on at the Department of Tourism until May, to assist with the transition.
In the meantime, two new Assistant Directors, for corporate services and product development, should be in their posts by early 2000.
The current Director indicated his intention to retire last August under the pension rules that allow civil servants to leave between their 55th and 56th birthdays.

NEW YEAR'S EVE CRASH AC New Year's Eve crash A 28-year-old Pembroke man was in satisfactory condition after suffering a single-vehicle accident on New Year's Eve.
The man, riding north along Middle Road, Southampton -- near Port Royal Golf Course, lost control of his cycle colliding with a stone wall.
He also crashed into the southern side of a residence, causing extensive damage to his cycle.
He was given emergency assistance at the scene and was then conveyed to the Intensive Care Unit at the King Edward VII Memorial Hospital.
A hospital spokesperson yesterday listed the man in satisfactory condition on a general ward.
CAMERA SNATCHED CRM Camera snatched A purse snatcher caused a woman to fall off her cycle yesterday.
The complainant told Police she had been riding her livery cycle west on Pender Road in Sandys Parish when she noticed two males on an orange motorcycle travelling in the opposite direction.
As they passed, the passenger grabbed her Sony Mavica camera out of her basket, causing her to fall off her cycle.
Police obtained a brief description of the two men and are continuing their inquiries.
IMPAIRED RIDER BANNED CTS Impaired rider banned A Sandys Parish man, found slumped over his cycle after a single-vehicle accident, has pleaded guilty to impaired riding.
Robert Darren Longbottom, a supermarket manager, admitted in Magistrates' Court last week to riding on December 4 on Harbour Road while impaired.
Crown counsel Veronica Daley said Police drove up to Longbottom, 31, of 6 Beach Road, at 3.05 a.m. about 50 metres west of Stowe Hill.
Longbottom admitted to drinking that night. He was found to have 184 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood. The legal limit is 80 milligrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of blood.
He was fined $500 and banned from driving all motor vehicles for 12 months.
