morning, has been deemed a "huge success'' by Government House.

And according to Deputy Governor Tim Gurney, Her Royal Highness "seemed to really enjoy herself'' and came away from Bermuda with an excellent impression of the Island and her people. Accompanied by Governor Thorold Masefield and his wife Jennifer, the Princess left the Civil Air Terminal by private jet at about 9.30 a.m. and, apparently, the departure "went off without a hitch''.

The unofficial, but extremely busy three-day visit was also seen as having gone smoothly from Government's point of view.

Visit was a great success Information Services spokesperson Beverley Morfitt said: "Everyone was very pleased with how things went over all and we've had congratulations from many of those organisations involved.'' One such group was the Corporation of St. George's which organised Princess Anne's visit to King's Square in the old town on Thursday.

Secretary Nancy Hooper said she felt the event went "absolutely fabulously'' and that it was a "truly memorable occasion''.

"The tourists seemed to be the most impressed of all,'' she said. "They didn't expect to see her and I think it added considerably to the entire Bermuda experience.'' Another organisation the Princess' schedule focused on somewhat was the Salvation Army.

A large part of Thursday afternoon was spent by Her Royal Highness touring the charity's Drug Rehabilitation Centre at Harbour Light and the Emergency Housing Complex on Marsh Lane, Pembroke.

Community relations and development director Maj. Wilson Noble called Princess Anne's visit to both facilities "very successful''.

He added: "She spent time looking around and talking to many of our councillors and residents. She also said she was glad to see us here doing what we're doing every day.'' On Wednesday, Princess Anne made a grand entrance to City Hall in Hamilton to have tea with Hamilton Mayor William Frith.

Corporation of Hamilton secretary Roger Sherratt said this particular aspect of the schedule was "very pleasant indeed''.

"The Princess was charming and very friendly. She asked a lot of questions and seemed to take a keen interest in Bermuda,'' he added.

Just before her excursion to City Hall the Princess had dropped by the Bermuda Sailors Home.

Asked how her visit went, chairman Sean Pitcher said: "It all went very smoothly. The Princess knows what she's talking about because she is president of the missions to seamen back in the UK and she certainly seemed very impressed with our facility.'' Mr. Pitcher described Her Royal Highness as "very easygoing'' and added: "Her visit was certainly an honour for us.'' Wednesday morning's visit to the Bermuda Riding Centre for the Disabled was called a "great success'' by director Moira Benbow.
