Child care providers and people from day care centres are advised to attend a meeting tomorrow evening, at which the representatives will be elected.

It is hoped the move will lead to improvements in affordability, availability and quality day care.

Chief Environmental Health Officer David Kendell will be at the meeting at Goodwin C. Smith Hall, New Testament Church of God, 59 Dundonald Street (corner of Union Street), from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.

Four arrests for impaired driving

Four people were arrested on suspicion of impaired driving over the weekend.

Police also reported ten burglaries, 13 damage-only road traffic collisions, five road traffic collisions resulting in injury and seven vehicles taken without their owners' consent.

Robbers strike on Cedar Avenue

A Paget man was robbed of cash and personal items early Sunday morning.

Police spoke with the victim who said that around 12.30 a.m. he was standing at the corner of Cedar Avenue and Dundonald Street in Pembroke waiting for a taxi, when he observed two men walking west on Cedar Avenue.

The two suspects then crossed the road and accosted the 32-year-old man, removing a quantity of cash and personal items from him before escaping.

The victim was not injured during the theft.

The suspects are described as dark-skinned, of slim build, approximately 5ft 6in to 5ft 8in tall.

At the time of the theft they were wearing black long-sleeved hooded tops and dark pants.

Both suspects are believed to be in their late teens or early 20s. Inquiries are underway.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to contact the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Unit on 295-0011.

Man charged with kidnapping woman

A 20-year-old Pembroke man appeared in Magistrates' Court yesterday charged with kidnapping and assaulting a 56-year-old woman.

Troy Burgess pleaded not guilty to depriving Yvonne Mahoney of her liberty. He also denied assaulting the Pembroke resident.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner remanded Burgess in custody until next Monday, when he is to appear in Magistrates' Court for a hearing.
