Chapel of Ease adopts a new way to remember loved ones
Families and friends gathered for All Souls' Day at the Chapel of Ease in St. David's yesterday to remember their loved ones who had passed.
Almost 90 people attended Reverend David Raths' 3 p.m. service where the names of those who had died over the last year were read and flowers for the graves were blessed.
After the blessing, the flowers were taken out of the church to be laid on the graves to the sounds of bag pipes and Rev. Raths also placed a carnation on each.
For Rev. Raths this was a ceremony he brought from Ottawa, Canada and in its second year has hopefully helped families who may still be grieving.
"It was a very good attendance and the church was filled with flowers. They bring them in so I can bless the flowers and they take them out to the graves," he said.
"Everyone seemed to like it. It is more a memorial service for the grave yard for all those buried there. We read out the names of people who have been buried there since last year.
"It was very emotional for people, but very much appreciated. Grieving is sometimes a solitary thing and this is a chance for family members to get together. It was a lovely afternoon."
