Kim Swan and wife involved in late night car crash
The wife of Opposition Leader Kim Swan is in hospital after a suspected drunk driver was involved in a collision with the couple as they drove home from the lengthy House of Assembly session on Friday.
Mr. Swan called the experience "traumatic" and added: "My wife and I are thankful to be alive and give thanks to God for sparing our life for another day."
The accident happened at 2.10 a.m Saturday morning, less than an hour after Government Ministers El James and Terry Lister dramatically called for the Premier's resignation.
It is understood a 40-year-old Pembroke man, driving in the opposite direction on North Shore Road near Terceira's Shell Service Station, lost control of his car and was involved in a collision with the Swan's van as well as a second vehicle.
The Pembroke man was arrested on suspicion of impaired driving and detained after failing an alco-analyser test, according to Police.
Neither Mr. Swan nor the driver of the second car that was hit was injured.
However, the Opposition Leader's wife Cindy was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital and treated for lacerations to her left elbow. As of press time yesterday she remained in the Perry Ward in stable condition.
Mr. Swan said yesterday: "We would like to thank the Bermuda Police, doctors and hospital staff, the neighbouring community and all those persons who have expressed their best wishes and prayed for us."
