More than 40 submissions are made on Government's gaming proposal

Gaming issue: A roulette wheel and marble spinning

Government has received more than 40 submissions from the public on the Green Paper on gaming.

Members of the public were encouraged to submit their opinions before MPs debate gaming, which is scheduled to take place on Friday when the House of Assembly reconvenes.

As of last Wednesday, there were only a handful of submissions but by Friday's midnight deadline, that number increased to 42.

The Green Paper recommends that a casino be permitted in Bermuda and some of the revenue generated used to tackle social ills associated with gambling.

It is estimated that opening one casino in Hamilton would generate $83 million in Government revenue a year and if casinos were allowed in hotels with 100 or more rooms, Government could be looking at $130 million in revenue annually.
