Motorcyclist injured after collision with Police car
A motorcycle rider was injured when his vehicle came into collision with an unmarked Police car in Sandys Parish around 9.20 p.m. on Saturday.
According to a Police spokesman: "It appears that the unmarked Police car was travelling west on Somerset Road and the motorcycle was travelling in the opposite direction when the vehicles collided. The rider of the motorcycle, a 34-year-old Sandys Parish man, sustained injuries to his torso, left arm and left leg."
The man was taken to King Edward VII Memorial Hospital via ambulance for treatment. The officer driving the Police vehicle was not injured. The Police car and motorcycle were both damaged.
The Royal Gazette asked the Police spokesman to state how much the damage to the Police car would cost to repair, and what business the car was travelling on at the time. He had not provided the information by press time.
The collision came just five days after a marked Police car suffered extensive damage when it came into collision with a bus at the junction of Cedar Avenue and Dundonald Street in Hamilton. Witnesses, who did not want to be named, claimed the Police vehicle had its lights flashing and ran a red light when the two collided.
In April 2005, 21-year-old Scott Michael Kozma died when his motorcycle came into collision with a Police Toyota Landcruiser at the same city junction. Coroner Juan Wolffe subsequently highlighted concerns over the design of the Police vehicle and junction and Mr. Kozma's manner of driving.
