Tourism advertises for managers at New York office
The Tourism Department is advertising for three new managers for the New York office.
Yesterday, the Government revealed they are looking for three managers who collectively will be paid approximately $300,000. In April it was announced that US company Sales Focus would no longer be spearheading the New York office's efforts to lure visitors to Bermuda shores.
Since then little has been said about who would be replacing the firm. Currently they are advertising for a partnership manager of worldwide distribution, partnership manager of worldwide groups and a senior business development manager.
The three will work under Ann Shutte, who was appointed as Bermuda's director of global operations in February, in the New York office.
The managers will be in charge of implementing a distribution and marketing plan, liaising and directing key partners worldwide as well as establishing a satisfaction survey for those working within the "Bermuda team" among other things.
The job postings come a year after Sales Focus was recruited amid anger home and abroad when Premier and Tourism Minister Ewart Brown made long-serving Bermudians in the New York office redundant in what he described as "an outsourced sales solution".
The matter ended up before the courts because Dr. Brown broke Government's contractual agreement by failing to consult with the Bermuda Public Services Union to explore other options before kicking staff out of their office.
However, the union was unable to stop the move as the contract with Sales Focus was signed before legal proceedings began.
Prior to the Department of Tourism's decision to not renew the firm's six month contract staff alleged the firm was inexperienced in the tourism industry and lack of Bermuda knowledge.
In April Dr. Brown's commented on the decision to part ways with the firm and said: ""At the time, we thought Sales Focus were the best team. It didn't turn out that way."
The closing date for job applicants interested in the positions is August 19.
