Consultant hired to launch sports, lifestyle tourism marketing plan

The Tourism Department have retained the consulting services of the man who brought the PGA Grand Slam to Bermuda's shores.

Recently the Department revealed it had signed a $210,000 contract with Razzmatazz Holding Ltd. to implement a sports and lifestyle plan for Bermuda.

The company is a British Virgin Islands sports marketing and consulting company that provides the contracted services of Roddy Carr as a sports events tourism consultant.

Mr. Carr, who previously worked as a leading tourism consultant for IMG, the world's leading sports, entertainment and media company, has been credited with bringing the PGA Grand Slam to Bermuda when he negotiated with the PGA of America on Bermuda's behalf and succeeded in fighting off rival bids from the likes of Las Vegas, the Dominican Republic and former host Hawaii.

Yesterday the Department of Tourism added that Mr. Carr was the author of the original Sports Active Lifestyle Study and the Golf Tourism Plan for Bermuda.

A spokeswoman said: "Bermuda's hosting The Grand Slam of Golf, the World Under-21 Beach Volleyball Championships, the Movies on the Beach events, Sandtastic events, and the reconstruction and makeover of Port Royal are some of the projects that have been 'activated' as a result of the study and plan."

She added that the contract, which was announced on July 16, is valid until March 2011 and the services being provided are outlined in the contract.
