Cruise ship which takes luxury to new levels in port on Tuesday

An award-winning Bermuda chef has been invited to be a guest chef aboard one of the world's most luxurious cruise ships due to visit the Island this week.

Serge Botelli, chef at Tucker's Point Club, will board The World on Thursday along with his two chefs, Ronnie Dimepolis and Bonnie Cueto, sailing to South Carolina.

The World is a floating residential community owned by its residents who represent 40 different countries.

They live on the vessel as it circumnavigates the globe from port to port. Some residents live aboard full time while others visit the ship throughout the year.

Mr. Botelli said he is excited about the opportunity as he has never worked aboard a ship before. "It's a great experience to go on a boat like that. I look forward to seeing the organisation of a kitchen on a ship that size. "It's quite spectacular because it is completely different than anything else", he said.

The chef explained the idea for him to serve as a guest chef came from members at the Tucker's Point Club who own an apartment aboard the floating community.

"Out of the blue they [the members], talked about it. The food and beverages manager said it would be a good idea. They do it often with different chefs around the world."

Mr. Botelli will be hosting a dinner at Tucker's Point for residents of the ship on Tuesday night, when it berths in Hamilton. On Wednesday, he will be taking food on board to prepare for them.

While at sea, the chef and his team will be preparing one dinner and also doing a cooking demonstration.

Asked what kind of food he will make, Mr. Botelli said: "Some ideas are Bermudian food, local flair with traditional flair. "I like to cook seafood, but I have no favourite dish."

The chef and his team will be on board from Thursday until Sunday as the vessel makes her way to Charleston, South Carolina.

Mr. Botelli arrived in Bermuda 30 years ago and has been in charge of kitchens at La Coquille, Lido, Tavern on the Green in Botanical Garden's and more. He has also appeared in Bon Appetite magazine.
