Manhunt on for Ord Road shooter
A 19-year-old Paget man was shot in broad daylight yesterday afternoon on Ord Road. Police have not released the teenager's name.
The Royal Gazette has been made to understand he was treated at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital for injuries to his leg. Despite reports that the man was released from hospital last night, Police media spokesman Dwayne Caines said: "The extent of his injuries is unknown.
"I do not know if the man has been released from the hospital."
The incident happened near the junction of Ord Road and Tribe Road No. 5 in Paget, shortly after 3 p.m.
An area resident, who wished to remain anonymous, said she was inside her home when her daughter told her she had heard four gun shots. Soon after the woman heard several bikes leaving the area and Police sirens. Police arrived at the scene at 3.20 p.m. and cordoned off 200 yards of the street while they scoured the area for bullet casings and evidence.
A vehicle, believed to have been damaged by bullets, was hauled away. There was also a heavy Police presence on Granaway Lane in Southampton where a motorcycle, believed to have been used in the incident, was seized.
And West End motorists suffered delays in travelling home from work as Police conducted stop-and-search measures in Southampton and Somerset, particularly the Barnes Corner area, as part of their investigation into the incident.
Mr. Caines apologised for the inconvenience: "We are asking the public for their patience while we do this as part of our active investigation.
"We are also asking for anyone who saw suspicious persons in the Industrial Park Road of Southampton to Barnes Corner area to contact Police."
Yesterday's shooting took place close to the spot where Jason Lightbourne was shot dead in 2006. No one has been charged with his murder to date.
Inquiries are ongoing into yesterday's shooting. Police are appealing for any witnesses or anyone with any information about this matter to contact the Serious Crime Unit on 295-0011 or the confidential Crime Stoppers hot line on 800-8477.
