Three men were charged with possession of cannabis after Police raided a Devonshire home.

The men appeared in Magistrates' Court on Friday before Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner.

Christopher Parris, 26, was charged with possession of cannabis with intent to supply, possession of cannabis and possession of a grinder to use with a controlled drug.

He pleaded not guilty to possession with intent but guilty to the other two charges.

Victor Parris, 27, was charged with possession of cannabis and possession of a grinder to use with a controlled drug. He denied the charges.

And Austin Butterfield, 39, admitted possession of cannabis.

The charges relate to an incident on January 20.

Crown counsel Carrington Mahoney said Police officers issued a search warrant on the Parris ' Roberts Avenue home.

When they arrived, officers identified the pair, and another man, Butterfield.

Mr. Mahoney said: "One officer approached Christopher Parris and asked him if he had any controlled drugs in his possession and he said yes."

The court heard officers searched his clothing and found a plastic bag with eight small wrapped twists. They also found $682.95 in cash.

When arrested, Christopher Parris said: "I smoke a lot and I have a problem."

Officers also found cannabis leaves in the trash can.

When Butterfield was told he was going to be searched, he said he had a small amount of cannabis in his backpack. Officers found a small bag containing plant-like material which he said was "weed".

Mr. Mahoney said Victor Parris took the officers to a bedroom, pointed to a small, dark coloured dresser and said: "That's where I keep my personal stash".

Officers also found a silver grinder which Victor Parris said was his. Asked if he had any large amounts of money, Victor initially said "no" then told officers he had $2,000 earned from his carpentry job, in a safe.

Both Christopher Parris and Butterfield admitted to possession of the drugs during separate interviews at the Hamilton Police Station.

Victor Parris said he was nervous and wanted to "take the rap" for the drugs and grinder even though they weren't his.

The drugs found on Christopher Parris and in the trash can weighed 42.47 grams and had a street value of $2,100.

The drugs alleged to be Victor Parris' weighed 3.93 grams; Butterfield's weighed 1.53 grams.

Butterfield, of Wellman Lane, Warwick was given a $1,500 fine.

Mr. Mahoney said the Crown would proceed to trial on the Parris' not guilty pleas.

Christopher will be sentenced for his guilty pleas after the trial. He was represented by Shawn Crockwell. The others did not have a lawyer present.

The Parris's were given $10,000 bail and ordered to report to the Hamilton Police Station every Monday, Wednesday and Saturday.
