PHC and Rangers set for Belco Cup rematch

PHC and Southampton Rangers will meet in tomorrow's Belco Cup final at Lords after cruising through their respective semi-finals today.Defending champions PHC hammered Bailey's Bay by a whopping 207 runs, while Rangers' seven-wicket win over Willow Cuts was equally emphatic.Dion Stovell's unbeaten 114 propelled Rangers into their seventh consecutive Belco final, and gives them an immediate chance to avenge their defeat to PHC last year.Stovell starred with bat and ball for Rangers today, taking two wickets as Willow Cuts were bowled out for 226 at St David'sKevon Fubler top-scored for Cuts, scoring a vital 52 in a team batting display that promised much, but faltered too often at keys times.Chris Douglas (33) got Cuts off to a strong start, and George O'Brien (33) gave them a defendable total with a good innings at the end, but Janerio Tucker's three wickets for 35 runs always looked like giving Rangers the upper-hand.Things might have been different if Cuts had been able to hold on to their catches, but Jermaine Trott and Malachi Jones both dropped Stovell during his innings. The bowling too left a lot to be desired, and with Jones restricted to bowling spin because of a rib injury, much of the pressure to take wickets fell on O'Brien's broad shoulders.Unfortunately, the early scalp of Gerald Simons aside, O'Brien struggled with his line and length for much of the day, and eventually conceded 69 runs from 8.4 overs. The final 12 of which came in four balls, and saw Stovell hit three boundaries to win the match. At Somerset in an equally one-sided affair, PHC batted first and were helped to a useful total of 289 for six by new skipper Jason Anderson, who scored 87, and Kamau Leverock who top-scored with an impressive 89 under the watching eyes of Bermuda head coach David Moore.Bailey's Bay meanwhile had a day that started badly, and got progressively worse. Irving Romaine dislocated a finger during PHC's innings, and is expected to be out of action for several weeks.Damon Edwards broke a finger and is also facing a long lay off.In their absence Bay's batting crumbled completely, and they were eventually all out for 88, with Kevin Tucker and Hasan Durham taking three wickets apiece, as Bay were only able to field eight batsmen.
