Free talk on Thursday on the cancers of the female reproductive system

The Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre will be hosting a free talk focused on gynaecological cancers. The seminar is open to the public and will be held at 5.45pm on September 6 at the Cathedral of the Most Holy Trinity Hall.According to a spokeswoman for the organisation, September is Gynaecological Cancer Awareness month, and the informational session will seek to provide residents with information on the major cancers associated with the female reproductive system.“To help increase awareness of gynaecologic cancers, Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre will host a FREE public talk that explains the risks, symptoms and preventive measures of the five major cancers of the female reproductive system: cervical, ovarian, uterine, vaginal and vulvar,” said the spokeswoman. The seminar is just one of many other projects the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre have planned for the month of September. These projects “will focus increased emphasis on helping women understand the steps they can take to reduce the risks for these cancers and receive the earliest possible diagnosis through symptom recognition,” said the spokeswoman.Said the organisation’s Education Officer, Rhonda Smith-Simmons: ‘Just being a woman puts us at risk of developing gynaecologic cancer and this risk increases with age.’“As a result, the Bermuda Cancer and Health Centre is “urging all women to learn how to prevent and detect women’s cancers, take note of common symptoms, and act quickly to seek care from their physicians if there are concerns or questions.”Useful website: www.chc.bm
