Injured ship’s crewman in hospital

A tug vessel towing the world’s largest barge crane diverted to Bermuda this weekend to drop off an injured crew member.

Staff at the Bermuda Maritime Operations Centre were contacted on Thursday regarding an injury on-board the

Union Manta.

The ship was towing the crane barge SSCV

Thialf from Portugal to Port Fouchon in Louisiana when an incident on board reportedly left a crewman with a severed finger.

The tug diverted towards the Island, and met the pilot boat

St David shortly after 8pm on Friday to transfer the crewman, who was brought to the Island for treatment.

The 3,100 tonne Belgian tug vessel has since continued on its voyage with the 136,709 tonne crane barge.
